In the Garden

In the Garden is a multilayered work created from woven magazine pages overlaid with stitching. The base simple-woven mat is an homage to the banig of my childhood in the Philippines; the overall cross-stitching is likewise a reference to needlework and projects that my grandmother insisted upon. The result is a 3-dimensional effect that is difficult to convey in photographs: different viewing angles highlight different areas and features of the piece.
